These are a few tips I think are useful for anyone thinking about enjoying Calabria, and I encourage all of you to do so ; )
Take it easy - enjoy the fact that time is beautifully and especially slow down South
Nod if you meet someone along your way - Calabrian hospitality is well known for its cosiness
Look into people's eyes, while some people can seem rough if you smile and give them time you will realise that we are nice people dressed as a bear (Italian saying).
Talk to people in the shops, enjoy company - once again, we love it!
Take into consideration that there is a very high risk of losing control of your diet simply because the food is amazing
Make sure you always have enough gasoline if you are traveling inland through secondary roads - there are usually no gasoline distributors along these roads
Spending a day at the beach is not a banal decision, in Calabria you can get crazy - our seas vary a lot in terms of colour, smell and intensity
So, be well prepared for our wonderful wild (sandy and rocky) beaches - always bring water, a beach umbrella, (possibly) shoe rocks and suncream of course
Consider going hiking and trekking, they are wonderful experiences to enjoy Calabria and if done with an authorised guide even better
Hug the trees, it would be like hugging the dynamic century-old history of nature
Imperfect prices, not so long ago the main practice for the exchange of goods was to barter and therefore nowadays people have a hard time in recognizing the right price, it is usually either too high or too low. Make your point if you sense this is the case, people are usually reasonable.
